I'm excited to share some great news with you all! The House Appropriations Committee has included crucial funding for our beloved Southeast Texas in the fiscal year 2025 (FY25) Appropriations bills. While these projects have been approved by the full committee, we're still awaiting the final passage by the full House of Representatives. Here's a sneak peek at what’s in store for us:
$113,286,000 for the Sabine-Neches Waterway (SNWW): This funding will help deepen the SNWW from its current 40-foot depth to its authorized 48-foot depth. The SNWW is our nation’s leading energy exporter and the #1 exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This project is a game-changer for Texas and the entire United States!
$5,000,000 for the Texas Coastal Project (Ike Dike): This is for the pre-construction engineering and design work needed to bolster our coastal resiliency. It’s about time we have an integrated strategy to protect our beautiful Texas coast from immediate and long-term risks. This project is not just crucial for our state but also for national security and economic protection.
$2,000,000 for the Port of Galveston: This will fund the creation of a four-lane cargo corridor, a new access gate and weigh station, and 35 acres of additional cargo laydown space. These improvements are expected to secure up to 500,000 new cargo tonnage volumes within the decade, create jobs, and boost efficiency at the port.
$1,250,000 for Texas A&M’s AgriLife Texas Gulf Coast Oyster Research: Aquaculture is one of the fastest-growing agricultural sectors globally, and this funding will support vital oyster research on our Texas Gulf Coast. This is expected to be a primary source of growth in seafood production in the future.
These projects are going to make a significant impact on our region. They'll strengthen our economy, create jobs, and ensure our infrastructure is up to the task of supporting growth and facing future challenges. I’m proud to have fought for these investments, and I can't wait to see the positive changes they will bring to our communities.
Thank you for your continued support and trust. Together, we're making Southeast Texas stronger and more resilient!
