Celebrating Independence Day
On July 4th, 1776, our founding fathers ratified the Declaration of Independence, officially separating the 13 colonies from Great Britain. 248 years later we celebrate the birth of our nation, the greatest country in the world.
Yesterday, I celebrated the Fourth of July in Cudahy, St. Francis, Franklin, Hales Corners, and Oak Creek!
Nothing beats the Fourth of July with friends and family!
Working to Prevent Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is a horrendous crime that presents a real threat to people all over the world. It is happening right here in Wisconsin. We cannot turn a blind eye. Last weekend, I joined a human trafficking prevention workshop aimed to raise awareness in our community.
The workshop featured a presentation about how the LIFE Initiative assists with recovering and provides support for survivors of trafficking. Children ages 8-16 participated in a hands-on self-defense/safety workshop provided by On Point Training. They also received information about internet safety and what to do if they or their friends are in a potentially dangerous situation.
I'm also working in Congress to help prevent human trafficking. I introduced a bipartisan bill to hold foreign countries accountable for their efforts to investigate, prevent, and prosecute financial criminal activities associated with this crime.
My bill takes an important step to combat this crisis by ensuring our international partners do their part in our global fight against human trafficking.
There is much more to do, but by working together we can continue to take important steps forward to prevent human trafficking.

Hearing from Wisconsin Workers
It's no secret Wisconsin workers make incredible products. I talked this week with the men and women of Reflective Concepts, an innovative lighting component manufacturer in Kenosha. Thanks Ed and Jason for showing me around.
ICYMI: No Federal Tax Dollars for Partisan Election Activity
Last month, I asked Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman to ensure that the universities will not inappropriately utilize federal funding for partisan purposes ahead of this election.
I raised this issue after reports surfaced that public universities across the country, including in Wisconsin, are utilizing Federal Work Study and Help America Vote Act (HAVA) grant funds for voter registration and get-out-the-vote efforts ahead of the 2024 election.
This week, President Rothman responded to my concerns restating that there have been no partisan electoral activities at the Universities of Wisconsin in the most recent academic year.

As Chairman of the Committee on House Administration, I am focused on increasing confidence in our elections. The more confident Americans are in their elections, the more likely they are to participate.
On Wisconsin,
Bryan Steil Member of Congress
