Customers urged to postpone dump runs until further notice due to equipment outage, long waits expected at waste facilities
Due to a temporary outage of the garbage compactor at Olympic View Transfer Station, Kitsap County is asking the public to postpone their dump runs to all county waste facilities until further notice.
We plan to keep all waste facilities open until repairs are complete, but customers should expect long wait times.
We?ll continue to provide updates as the situation changes, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Our facility website may not reflect current information.

Olympic View Transfer Station experiencing long delays
The garbage compactor at Olympic View Transfer Station is down. This will cause long lines at the facility until repairs are made. We expect lines to stretch onto the roadway outside the transfer station. Customers wanting to use the recycling area will also have to wait in long lines.
WM, the contracted operator of the transfer station, is working to repair the compactor. They expect repairs to be made sometime on Monday, July 8. However, it will take some time to catch up and process all the waste received over the weekend. Long waits may continue through the week.
Kitsap County has purchased a second garbage compactor and plans to install it in 2025. This will provide redundancy and additional processing capacity.

Recycling and Garbage Facilities may be impacted
The Recycling and Garbage Facilities in Silverdale, Hansville, and Olalla may be affected by the compactor outage. All the garbage collected at these smaller facilities is taken to Olympic View Transfer Station, which is currently experiencing processing limitations and long wait times.
Recycling and Garbage Facilities may turn away customers when capacity is reached.

Collection services shouldn't be impacted
We do not anticipate any service interruptions to the waste collection services provided by WM, Bainbridge Disposal, and the City of Poulsbo.?
