Late last month, the state Senate moved to advance SB 401, also known as the Michigan Voting Rights Act, despite GOP opposition. If passed, this bill would help secure access to the ballot box by creating new protections for voters who’ve historically been discriminated against.

It comes down to this: When Democrats are in power in state legislatures, they advance legislation to defend voting rights and defend our democracy — even as Republicans try to stop them .
