FIRST: Wall Street started buying single-family homes to use for rental income, driving up rent and making it harder and harder for everyday people to buy homes.

THEN: I introduced the Stop Wall Street Landlords Act. The bill would tax existing and future Wall Street acquisitions and ban the Federal Housing Finance Agency from purchasing and securitizing mortgages held by private equity firms.

NOW: I’m being attacked by Wall St executives and hedge fund managers for putting people before profit.

America faces a shortage of 7 million affordable homes. This crisis impacts every state, and corporate greed is making it worse.

A record half of renters [[link removed]] spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing. Although millions of Americans qualify for federal housing subsidies, the lack of funding for the Housing Trust Fund makes meeting the need for affordable housing next to impossible. On top of that, Wall Street is buying up single-family residential homes nationwide, making it harder for families and individuals to buy homes.

I’m taking bold steps in Washington to curb Wall Street’s chokehold on the housing market and invest in affordable housing. But I can’t do it without your support.

Wall Street is ready to deploy millions of dollars and hundreds of lobbyists to maintain the status quo in Congress. They have the money, but we have the people.
