Dear neighbor:
I hope you all had a fantastic Fourth of July! As we gear up for Congress to be back in session next week, I wanted to share some highlights from around the district during the holiday. This Fourth of July was packed with activities, and I had the pleasure of joining many of you in Perth Amboy, Rumson, Long Branch, and other towns many other towns throughout the district to celebrate our nation's independence.
Celebrating Artistic Excellence in NJ’s 6th District
The Congressional Art Competition is an annual event held in districts across the United States, including New Jersey's 6th District, where high school students submit their artwork for a chance to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol. Gabriella Freeman from Piscataway won this prestigious competition with her pen and ink drawing titled "Trust and Connections." As part of her achievement, she visited the Capitol to see her artwork displayed among other winning pieces from across the nation, showcasing her talent and creativity to a wide audience.
Preserving Perth Amboy’s Water Safety
This week, I secured $1.1 million in federal funding for critical upgrades to Perth Amboy’s Runyon Water Treatment Plant. This funding will address emerging contaminants and ensure continued access to clean drinking water for the city’s 55,000 residents. These upgrades are crucial to safeguarding public health and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our water supply. By investing in these improvements, we are laying the foundation for a safer, healthier environment for generations to come. Read more.
SCOTUS’s Trump Immunity Ruling
This week’s Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity is deeply troubling and fundamentally changes the balance of power in our democracy. It essentially removes limits on what a president can do, creating a dangerous precedent where the president is above the law. This decision undermines our nation's legal principles and accountability, especially concerning the events of January 6th and Donald Trump’s actions that day.
