The U.S. Forest Service has initiated a process to amend every national forest plan in the country to protect old growth, which could become one of the most important protections for federal forests that we have seen in decades. But to be successful, the proposed amendment must fulfill President Biden’s commitment to protect all existing old-growth and chart a course for mature forests to grow old.
