This year, let’s make our festivities even more spectacular by adding a splash of green to our red, white, and blue. While it’s important to recognize that our celebrations can leave a lasting mark on the environment — whether through single-use plastics littering our parks and beaches or the noise and air pollution caused by fireworks — the true culprit behind these detrimental impacts isn’t our festive gatherings; it’s the plastics industry. 

Single-use plastics pose dual threats to the environment and human health, from suffocating marine life to disrupting our immune, respiratory, and digestive systems. The plastics industry continues to profit from its systemic disregard for human and planetary health, exploiting our dependence on single-use plastics. 

This Independence Day, let’s come together not just in celebration, but also to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy this holiday with the same pride and joy we share today. To sustain the momentum of Earth Day 2024’s Planet vs. Plastics campaign — and our call for a 60% reduction in the production of plastics by 2024 — we need your support this Fourth of July.
