However, today’s Independence Day is set against the backdrop of rising threats to the fundamental freedoms of every American. 

As extremists on the right continue to push their cruel agenda to ban abortions nationwide, slash Social Security and Medicare, cut benefits for veterans and allow more dangerous weapons on our streets, it is more important than ever that we fight back and defend the democracy that our founding fathers envisioned and fought for. 

I will continue working to protect your rights and for policies that promote economic growth, affordable healthcare, high-quality education and safe neighborhoods.
