John,

Today we celebrate our country’s independence and the democratic values we stand for. Let’s take time to reflect on the vision our founders built this nation upon and the freedoms we are fortunate enough to enjoy today.

As a nation, we’ve faced many challenges and continued to grow together while still valuing those same principles. Our top priority must always be protecting our democracy.

While we celebrate, we cannot forget that in just four months, voters in Connecticut will play a vital role in deciding the future of American democracy. We must ensure Connecticut remains a beacon of common values and sensible governance.

Today, I encourage you to remember the people who have shaped our nation throughout its history and acknowledge that we are still pursuing a more perfect union for all.

Let’s take the progress we have made and continue the fight, making sure each and every American is protected by our democracy.
