On this Independence Day, we celebrate not only the birth of our nation but the enduring spirit that keeps us moving forward. As we gather with family and friends, let us remember the profound words of the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” These ideals have been our guiding stars for nearly two and a half centuries.
Yet, as we commemorate our freedoms, as we attend potlucks and parades, we must acknowledge the challenges that loom large. Fractures from within threaten America, threaten what she stands for—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Differing worldviews, demagogues, and corrupt politicians, along with the insidious forces of greed and asymmetries of power, challenge the very foundation of our great nation. The unequal branches of government disrupt the balance intended by our founders, which is why I am running for Congress. We are still here, but we must not take this resilience for granted. History is not preordained; anything can happen.
Despite these trials, despite these threats, we are still here. We have survived wars, depressions, and internal strife, yet we remain a beacon of hope and freedom. As we celebrate today, let's commit to protecting and nurturing this great experiment called America. Let’s honor our past by fighting for a future where every American can truly enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Happy Birthday, America, and Happy Independence Day to all.
