What does Independence Day mean to you?


Two hundred forty-eight years ago, our Founding Fathers boldly, courageously, ingeniously, and eloquently issued the Declaration of Independence, a seismic event in the course of human history. We’ve read it, and we’ve heard its many poignant passages time and again. Key passages such as:


“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”


But what meaning do these words written 248 years ago provide today, in 2024?


My only ask today is that you take a few minutes to read the Declaration of Independence again. You can find it on the National Archives website at this link. Read and contemplate the list of grievances our Founding Fathers wrote about life under the tyranny of King George. Feel the courage, wisdom, and fortitude of those brave men who—for the greater good of us all—mutually pledged to each other their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor.


It is a pivotal moment in the United States right now. The list of grievances we could all draw up about the government’s actions is enormous. And let’s not forget the forces outside of the government—unaccountable, unelected actors scattered across corporations, political organizations, the media, and other entities—that have contributed to our current national state of affairs. At times, it can seem overwhelming.


But I have always loved Independence Day because it represents a day of hope. A day of promise of what the future can hold. And that is undoubtedly still true today.


We here at America First Legal are truly blessed to live in this country and work in a place that allows us to fight for it, our civil rights, our Constitution, and so much more alongside great patriots like you. We appreciate your support and interest in our continued work to save this great country.


Please remember why we celebrate today, but please also take time to hold on to the promise of what we can achieve together in the future for this great country.
