On this historic day 248 years ago, right here in the heart of Philadelphia, our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, marking the birth of the United States.
In doing so, they set forth the idea of centering a nation on liberty, freedom, and prosperity for all. Today is a day to reflect on our past, celebrate our freedoms — and look forward to the work we still have to do in the future.
It’s so important for us to come together to honor the values our country was founded on but also acknowledge the continued lack of equal opportunity that persists today. I’m committed to continuing to do the work to make sure every Philadelphian has the opportunity to thrive in our great city.
I hope you take the time to enjoy the Welcome America festivities this year, from concerts and parades to fireworks and historical tours — all hosted here in the birthplace of our nation.
