Happy 4th of July, John!
Today is a day for hot dogs and fireworks. It’s for pool parties and barbecues and games.
But let’s also take a moment to recognize that the reasons we celebrate today — freedom, and equality, and our beautiful experiment in democracy — are under direct threat in the coming election.
We celebrate July 4th because it marks the beginning of our work to build a union in which all people are equal, the will of the people is done, and no man stands above the law. That work is not yet complete, and we have to win big in November to keep moving forward.
John, we still believe America is the land of opportunity and freedom for all. We hope you enjoy celebrating our nation’s strength and beauty with your loved ones today — because there’s plenty of work to defend our freedoms ahead.
And we know this team is up to the task.
Have a wonderful 4th of July and a bright, sunny weekend.
