Help us ensure that the American idea inspires for generations to come.   Dear John, Happy July 4th! As America’s leading platform for nonpartisan civic education and civil dialogue, the NCC is honored to convene thought leaders of diverse perspectives to explore the blockbuster decisions that the Supreme Court handed down at the end of a momentous term. We discussed the decisions on our We the People podcast with leading Supreme Court commentators and during an America’s Town Hall conversation with scholars of presidential power. Other recent podcasts have explored the early days of constitutional interpretation and debated whether the Constitution can revive the American Dream. It’s so meaningful for me to moderate such civil and illuminating conversations about the Constitution and the American idea! I’ve spent the past few days discussing the leading Supreme Court decisions on CNN, C-SPAN, MSNBC, Fox News, and NPR. I’ve also been excited to travel around the country talking about my new book on The Pursuit of Happiness: How Classical Writers on Virtue Inspired the Lives of the Founders and Defined America. We’re also making history tangible from our museum on historic Independence Mall, where visitors can view hundreds of artifacts in interactive exhibits like our new First Amendment gallery or through our virtual museum programs. As America’s 250th birthday draws closer, we’re launching a civic toolkit with the basic principles of the Declaration of Independence and the American idea, providing even more opportunities to celebrate the birthplace of American democracy and build civic networks in communities across the country. In today’s climate of political polarization, it’s all too easy to get caught up in echo chambers or withdraw from civic life completely. By coming together to explore the shared values that unite us as Americans, we can change civic dispositions for the better and revitalize the Republic. Please consider marking this Fourth of July with a gift to support our important work and help us ensure that the American idea continues to inspire for generations to come.
