Happy 4th of July! In the ongoing spirit of Juneteenth, let us celebrate our heritage and history while continuing the fight for representation, protecting our freedoms, voting rights and the right to choose — and our refusal to live under the rule of a king or dictator. 

As we celebrate our independence, let us also lift up the spirit of the declaration that all men and women are created equal. I am grateful to live in a country where we have the freedom (and civic responsibility) to use our collective voices and votes to achieve meaningful change.

We are the guardians of our rights and freedoms during a time when our very democracy is threatened. Let us use today to reaffirm our collective declarations and commitment to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, representation, justice and equality under the law.
