Today, millions of Americans will come together with friends and family for picnics, parades, fireworks, and, of course, plenty of hot dogs. While these festivities are a blast, let's not forget the true meaning behind the Fourth of July.
Nearly 250 years ago, the Continental Congress of the United States formally adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. In doing so, they established the founding principles of our nation, holding the truth self-evident that all are created equal.
Understanding the importance of our democracy is a powerful way to honor this holiday. To truly protect and strengthen our democracy, every generation must step up, make their voices heard, and exercise their power and vote. Every vote counts, and every voice matters in shaping the future of our country.
Yet, under the guise of patriotism, MAGA extremists continuously betray our country by undermining the rights of their constituents. From eroding reproductive healthcare to suppressing voting rights to disregarding our nation’s gun violence crisis, MAGA extremists’ draconian policies will only continue unless we unite and fight back.
On this Fourth of July, I’m reaffirming my dedication to you. No matter where you're from, what you look like, or who you love, I’m prioritizing your needs so we can move forward. Together, let’s build a nation that truly lives up to its promise of freedom and equality for all.
