Friend — this Fourth of July, our nation is celebrating all the incredible things that make this country the greatest on Earth: our commitment to freedoms, to justice, to our unwavering faith in democracy, and to our sometimes difficult march toward progress for all Americans.
But today, our nation is also facing a harsh reality: our very democracy is at stake.
On the eve of the day we celebrate breaking away from monarchy and tyranny, this ultra-conservative Supreme Court has bucked one of the very things that makes us American: That everyone is equal under the rule of law.
We don’t have kings in the United States of America, but an unelected body just bent the words of the founding fathers to put Donald Trump above the law, setting us up for a terrifying future if Donald Trump is elected.
Despite all of this, this Fourth of July, I’m still celebrating. You know why? Because I believe in the American people. And at the end of the day, Americans believe in freedom from tyranny.
Today, I’m promising you that from now until November, I’m going to do everything I can to fight for that democracy. So please, will you join me?
Together, we can beat tyranny. After all, that’s truly what America was founded on.
