Today, America celebrates her 248th birthday!

We know that Delaware has played a special role in that history. We take immense pride in the pivotal role our state delegates – Caesar Rodney, Thomas McKean, and George Read – played at the Continental Congress and the historic signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Delaware was also the First State to ratify the Constitution, and we continue to set an example for the rest of the country with our record-setting work passing paid family leave, protecting our communities from gun violence, and taking on the opioid crisis.

In our celebrations today, let us renew our commitment to working towards a brighter future for everyone in the First State! From education and safer communities to caring for our seniors and expanding access to affordable health care, there is so much work to do.

I am dedicated to rolling up my sleeves to do everything I can for the state and communities that raised me – and I hope you’re right there with me.
