Dear John,
First, Happy Fourth of July!
I write to you, fellow patriots, who need no reminder of the significance of this day. Yet, a return to the foundational texts ([link removed] ) is beneficial. We must, if America is to survive, study, time and again, what it means to be an American.
Today, I recommend an episode from The American Story Podcast ([link removed] ) . Conceived, created, and narrated by our own Chris Flannery—one of Claremont’s founders—each episode is a brief but profound love letter to America, her history, and her great people.
In episode 61, “The Real American Revolution,” Chris begins with these powerful words:
“We are not born understanding what it means to be an American, understanding the idea of political freedom, or knowing about the American Revolution. We must learn these things. If we don’t, the American Revolution, political freedom, and Americans will vanish from the earth.”

The purpose of this episode is to teach the characteristics of American citizenship and an enlightened patriotism. Such teaching is at the core of the Claremont Institute’s mission.
Thanks for helping to make that work possible.
Bless you and bless America,
