Happy 4th of July!

Did you know that Rhode Island is home to the oldest (and best) 4th of July celebration in America? It’s one of my favorite traditions.

Today we celebrate our country’s independence and the democratic values we stand for. Let’s take time to reflect on the vision our founders built this nation upon, and the freedoms we are fortunate enough to enjoy today.

As a nation, we’ve faced many challenges and continued to grow together while still valuing those same principles — freedom, equality, and justice. Our top priority must always be protecting our democracy.

So today, I encourage you to remember the people that have shaped our nation throughout its history, and acknowledge that we are still in pursuit of a more perfect union, for all. Let’s take the progress we have made and continue the fight, making sure each and every American is protected by our democracy.

I hope your 4th of July is fun-filled and safe, and spent with loved ones.
