Whether you're watching fireworks, attending a barbecue, or just relaxing, I hope you get a chance to enjoy today's holiday.
Today marks a special opportunity to acknowledge and remember the values and principles that define our country. The Declaration of Independence, as it was ratified on this day in 1776, was a starting point for our nation, not a finish line. It is but the floor of which our nation was founded, not the ceiling of the heights we can reach. Today, we celebrate progress — all the progress we have made, and all the progress that we still need to achieve.
We must never stop pushing for equal protection under the law for every single American, and as Speaker of the Pennsylvania State House, I promise to continue this fight.
My best wishes to you and your family for a safe holiday,
Joanna McClinton serves as the Speaker of the Pennsylvania State House, while proudly serving the 191st district.
Joanna has made important strides to enact progress in the Pennsylvania Legislature. From working to protect the rights of those accused in our criminal justice system to spearheading the fight to expand our voting rights, she has proven that she will always prioritize the prosperity of Pennsylvanians over the promise of power.
