Biden privately remains torn between defiance and acceptance amid calls to step aside
The president is at a crossroads, and with him, the future of our country. NBC News reports that in some discussions, Biden has acknowledged that the blowback from his debate performance last week may grow too large to overcome, while in others he has been completely dismissive of any notion that he might walk away from his re-election campaign. Biden's family members, in particular, have been pushing for him to stay in the race and push blame for his debate performance on to the aides who helped him prepare, particuarly senior advisor Anita Dunn and her husband Bob Baurer, Biden's lawyer. But internally, Biden's biggest question is whether "he could get to a place inside himself where he moved past the humiliation of the debate to have the confidence to get back in the ring and throw punches in a bruising, gloves-off campaign," reports NBC News.

Strike kills family as Israeli evacuation order sparks panicked flight from southern Gaza city
An Israeli airstrike killed a prominent Palestinian doctor and eight of his family members spanning three generations, including four children under the age of 5, after they obeyed evacuation orders and moved into an IDF "safe zone." Investigations by outlets such as NBC News have confirmed that Israel regularly bombs the so-called "safe areas" that it orders civilians to evacuate to. This latest evacuation has forced 250,000 people to flee, many of them having previously evacuated and returned the first time the IDF attacked the city of Khan Younis. “We have been humiliated. No proper food, no proper water, no proper bathrooms, no proper place for sleep. … Fear, fear, fear. There is no safety. No safety at home, no safety in the tent," said refugee Noha al-Bana, who has been forced to evacuate four times already.

Students at fake university in Michigan created by ICE can sue US, court rules
Ho boy. During the Trump years, his thugs at ICE and the Department of Homeland Security set up a fake college, the "University of Farmington" and set up a giant sting operation to entrap foreign students. They lured in a bunch of foreign-born students, collected tens of thousands of dollars in tuition money from each of them, and then shut the whole thing down in 2019, arresting 250 students and deporting many of them. Most of the students were of Indian origin and were in the United States legally, but ICE wanted to prove they were trying to "pay to stay" by enrolling at their fake college. Thankfully, now those poor kids have the right to sue the US government and at least get their tuition money back. This is the sort of villainously evil shit we can expect a LOT more of if Trump and his psychotic goons get back into office.

So many people bend over backwards, lick boots, and otherwise silently enable Donald Trump because they know the consequences of doing the right thing — an endless campaign of harassment, threats, and abuse. Stormy Daniels bravely took the stand to testify against Trump and helped convince the jury to make him a convicted felon, so in revenge Trumpers have embarked on a terror campaign against Daniels and her family. Daniels says that she's recieved threats “from people in my own community” and messages from strangers warning “they were going to rape everybody in my family, including my young daughter, before they killed them.” The threats are so bad that she's been forced to turn to a GoFundMe to try to move into a safehouse and pay off the legal bills she's racking up trying to defend herself against Trump's revenge lawsuits. It shouldn't be forgotten how much Daniels has sacrificed in order to do the right thing and stand up to Trump. “I’ve lost a lot more than I’ve made. Mostly my peace, mostly my daughter’s privacy, and time, time I’ll never get back with her,” said Daniels in an interview with Rachel Maddow.

In a big win for democracy, Mississippi's GOP-drawn maps that diluted black voting power were struck down for violating the Voting Rights Act and contained no less than 11 unconstitutional gerrymanders. The district court also ruled that special elections would be required for the newly drawn districts.

In a shocking move sure to further enflame tensions, the Israeli government approved the appropriation of 12.7 square kilometers in the Jordan Valley, the largest grab in over 30 years. Settlement monitors said the land grab connects Israeli settlements along a key corridor bordering Jordan, a move they said undermines the prospect of a contiguous Palestinian state — which is of course the whole point.
