Happy Independence Day, John! We are decked out in our red, white, and blue, and are ready to celebrate! |
In honor of today's holiday, we wanted to share a few fun facts about our great state's role in shaping American history: -
George Washington nicknamed Connecticut ‘the Provision State’ during the Revolutionary War. We earned that title by supplying food and cannons to the Continental Army.
- Nutmegger Robert Sherman was the only Founding Father to sign all four of America’s founding documents (The Continental Association, The Articles of Confederation, The Declaration of Independence, and The Constitution)
-
The Connecticut Compromise helped create our current two-house congress system.
- The famous quote, “My only regret is that I have but one life to give for my country” was said by Nathan Hale of Coventry, Connecticut. Nathan was an American Patriot, soldier, and spy who was hanged by the British in 1776. In 1985, he was officially designated the state hero of Connecticut.
Connecticut has a long history of fighting for our freedoms, and it’s a history your CT Dems pledge to always continue. As we see the growing MAGA extremism both here in our own state, and across the country as a whole, we know that people like you will always stand up for the values that make our Party and our county stronger. From all of us at the CT Dems, we hope you have a wonderful day celebrating our nation and our state today, and we hope you will take an extra moment today to raise a glass in honor of those early Americans who started this great American experiment, and to all of those who have continued it. Have a safe and happy 4th of July! Best,
Your Connecticut Democratic Party PS - Your support helps us continue to fight for our shared American ideals and values. Will you donate $17.76 today in honor of Connecticut’s place in the founding of our county?
