Friend, let me paint a picture for you.

The year is 1787. It’s September in Philadelphia. Delegates were leaving the Constitutional Convention after long hours of writing our Constitution.

As they were leaving, Benjamin Franklin was asked what kind of government we had. He answered back:

“A Republic, if you can keep it.”

We look back in awe of what our Founding Fathers achieved, building a nation based upon the rule of law. They knew it would be impossible to have a perfect union, but even “with all of its faults,” it gave us a foundation.

The foundation being “We, the people.”

I look back at that experience to ground my work in Congress. It shows that America is at its best when we put self-interest aside.

As a former Army Ranger, I know that to be true. I served alongside brave men and women who weren’t afraid to put their lives on the line for our country’s values.

To defend our system of checks and balances.

To prevent tyranny and make sure that nobody is above the law.

To defend America.

It’s been almost 250 years since the Constitution was drafted — and to be frank, many folks feel that our democratic system is more fragile than ever.

We have demagogues who are more determined to limit our freedoms than expand them.

We have leaders more focused on attaining power than giving it back to the people.

But we cannot be discouraged. We must continue our fight to defend our country.

Democracy isn’t a spectator sport. It is built upon decades and centuries of progress — folks like you and me standing strong to protect our democracy. The work isn’t easy, but it’s the only way we can keep our country and the values we hold dear.

We are now less than 150 days until the November election. I’m continuing my fight to uphold the rule of law, defend our Constitution, and usher in a new generation of leaders to Congress. If you share the same mission, chip in $10 to help me continue this work: [[link removed]]
