Keep yourself, friends, and family safe by NEVER drinking and boating

*As part of the Operation Dry Water campaign, Maine Game Wardens and fellow law enforcement officers from across the country will be removing impaired boaters from the water to help keep everyone safe this holiday weekend. Support and thank your local law enforcement.*


* Alcohol use is the leading contributing factor in boater deaths ? never boat while impaired!
* The Maine blood alcohol concentration limit for BUI is 0.08? just like driving a car. Impaired boating is impaired driving.
* When a boater or passenger drinks, cognitive abilities and judgment deteriorate, making it harder to process information, assess situations, and make good choices. Always choose to boat sober.
* Alcohol is also dangerous for passengers. Intoxication can lead to slips, falls overboard, and other dangerous incidents. It can also increase your risk of dehydration in the heat.
* Impaired boating causes boater deaths every year. Don?t ruin your life or someone else?s.

Help us keep it Maine: Protect our waters from aquatic invasive species

Help stop the transport and spread of aquatic invasive species, and remember to clean, drain and dry your boat. Once an invasive species is established, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to remove. Remember, please:


* *CLEAN *your gear before entering and leaving the water access site. Remove all plants, fish, animals, mud and debris from boots, gear, boat, trailer, and vehicle and throw it in the trash.
* *DRAIN* bilge, ballast, wells and buckets away from the water before you leave the area.
* *DRY* equipment completely before launching watercraft into another body of water.
* *DISPOSE* of unused or unwanted bait baitfish on land or in the trash. Never release any live baitfish into a water body.
