Saludos, John, it’s Gabe Vasquez. On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump is entitled to claim immunity from criminal prosecution for official actions he took as president.
I’m sure you remember some of those “official” ( read: criminal ) actions Trump took — like when he encouraged an insurrection at the Capitol on January 6 following his fair-and-square electoral loss. But as a result of this ruling, he may not face any consequences for these actions at all.
That’s right, John: Thanks to the hyper-partisan Supreme Court he hand-picked, Donald Trump is officially above the law. Unlike any other American who would face prosecution for those same actions, Donald Trump, and now any former president , can avoid accountability for misusing their official power for personal gain.
But Yvette Herrell is celebrating the Supreme Court’s decision to defend her “personal hero” Donald Trump.
Her first vote in Congress was to not certify the results of the 2020 election – so it’s no surprise she’s rallying behind the decision to place her idol above the law.
A dangerous precedent has been set for our nation. As MAGA extremists gradually unravel the ethics of our country, they have increasingly more leeway to commit crimes, strip away our rights, and destroy democracy as we know it.
I’m on the frontlines in Congress to protect our democracy and ensure none of this happens. Yvette Herrell has made it clear that her agenda revolves around extremism, division, and pleasing her personal hero, Donald Trump. When she sees Trump avoiding any consequences for his corruption, her extremist ideals are validated.
This SCOTUS ruling opens up a door for further deceit and corruption within our government. But we cannot allow this decision to distract us from the greatest power we hold as Americans: electing leaders for the people.
We need to elect leaders with a moral compass that abhors insurrections, lack of accountability, and chaos through corruption.
For Yvette Herrell, this Supreme Court decision is a cause for celebration. For Team Vasquez, John, it’s a call to fight that much harder.
