This week, the conservative, extremist majority on the Supreme Court decided former President Trump is above the law. Their decision on presidential immunity further erodes the public’s confidence in our institutions and poses as great a threat to our democracy as the former president’s behavior.

I am introducing a constitutional amendment to reverse the Supreme Court’s harmful decision and ensure all people, including former presidents, are held accountable for their actions. This amendment will do what the Supreme Court failed to do—prioritize our democracy.

In October, I updated you on our region receiving a federal Tech Hub designation under the Economic Development Administration (EDA)’s Regional Technology Innovation Hub program. This week, I was excited to announce the hard work and bipartisan collaboration of my colleagues and I which paid off with an historic federal investment of $40 million.

This funding will help empower the Buffalo-Rochester-Syracuse region’s semiconductor and sensing industries and propel our growth in these essential fields over the next decade. Together, we will continue to secure  the resources needed to achieve  the powerful vision we all share for our community.

As a member of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, I had the honor of presenting Vietnam War veterans from our region with honorary lapel pins and Certificates of Congressional Recognition on Monday. It was especially meaningful to host this event during the week of our nation’s Independence Day, a time to honor and thank those who have served this great nation and fought to protect the democracy we celebrate.

This is the sixth Pinning Ceremony my office has had the privilege of hosting, and we look forward to honoring more of our local veterans in the future. If you know of a Vietnam War veteran who should receive this commemorative pin, please reach out to our office.

I look forward to spending time with my family and neighbors this weekend in celebration of Independence Day, and I wish you and your families a very happy Fourth of July.

As we enjoy barbeques, fireworks, and time with loved ones, I hope we also take a moment  to reflect on what this holiday is truly about: honoring America’s foundational values of freedom, equality, and justice for all.
