New studies have revealed a startling reality: The tiny microplastics once thought to be confined to marine environments, are now entering our lungs through the air.
That means every breath we take, we’re breathing in these tiny microplastics. And this can eventually cause serious health risks. It’s another reason why we need to tackle the plastic pollution crisis and turn the tide on single-use plastics, which eventually break down into the microplastics that we’re breathing today.
While avoiding single-use plastics can reduce your personal exposure and recycling can sometimes help keep them out of our environment before they break down into microplastics, the sheer volume of plastic being produced annually dwarfs these efforts.
