John,
If you haven’t heard about Project 2025, then you may not know how big a risk it poses to all of us.
This is not just a political plan for Trump’s 2nd term — it's an all-out assault on our democracy, and our most basic human rights.
This extreme agenda, drafted by the far-right Heritage Foundation and funded by Trump mega-donors, takes particular aim at LGBTQ+ Americans.
If Trump is re-elected and enacts Project 2025’s “Mandate for Leadership” we will see Republicans:
-
Ban LGBTQ+ presence in schools: Defund public schools that recognize or support gay and transgender students.
-
Eliminate legal recognition: Remove terms like sexual orientation and gender identity from federal rules, regulations, and contracts, stripping away hard-earned rights. It also subtly advocates for the abolition of same-sex marriage, prioritizing families "comprised of a married mother, father, and their children," while promoting false statistics to undermine the validity of same-sex marriages.
...just to name a few.
We cannot allow this dangerous, regressive agenda to take root in the halls of Congress, the White House, or anywhere else in America.
By supporting our campaign today, you are empowering an openly gay candidate who understands the fight for LGBTQ+ safety, dignity, and rights, because it’s my own battle, too. Your contributions today directly fund our efforts to protect LGBTQ+ rights, advocate for inclusive policies, and ensure every person in our district is treated with respect and fairness.
Los Angeles has a proud history of defending LGBTQ+ rights. From the early activism of the 1950s Mattachine Society to the first-ever Pride parade in 1970, the historic efforts to defeat the Briggs Initiative in 1978, and the fight against Proposition 8 in 2008, our city has been at the forefront of the battle for equality.
I want to continue this proud legacy and head to Washington as a leader for a new generation of LGBTQ+ advocacy.
These are not just platitudes for me. I know first hand what it is like to hide who I am, and who I love. Coming out to my conservative parents in February 2018 was one of the hardest things I have had to do. I didn’t speak to them for almost 2 years because it became so toxic. But I don’t regret doing it. I am proud of who I am, and am proud to love my partner.
It’s hard enough to seek acceptance from family, let alone society.
We need leaders who understand this struggle firsthand and are committed to ensuring that everyone has the freedom to be who they are without fear.
If Trump is allowed back into the White House, the only way we can check his dangerous agenda is through Congress.
By contributing to our campaign now, you ensure we have a strong voice in Washington to protect our rights and push back against Trump and Project 2025’s destructive agenda. Together, we can continue the legacy of progress, and create a future where everyone is free to be themselves without fear.
It’s time for us,
David Kim
