Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

I hope to see you out tomorrow at one of the many Fourth of July celebrations happening across DC. We know there’s no better place to celebrate this holiday than in our Nation’s Capital. Our downtown has the best views, the best fireworks, and the best people to celebrate with!

For the second year, we’re hosting a family-friendly concert on Pennsylvania Avenue NW near Freedom Plaza. The concert will be broadcast nationally on CNN and will feature performances by the U.S. Air Force Band, Doug E. Fresh, Reyna Roberts, Rare Essence, Gavin DeGraw, and more. The festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m. and go throughout the evening.

4th of July Concert

If you’re coming to the concert, heading to the National Mall, or just moving around DC, we encourage you to take public transportation. Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess will be free beginning at 5:00 p.m. on July 4.

You’re also encouraged to sign up for Fourth of July text updates on public safety impacts, road closures, weather alerts, and more by texting JULY4DC to 888-777.

No matter how you celebrate, please stay safe. We expect it to be hot tomorrow, so drink plenty of water and stay cool. Outdoor pools and spray parks [ [link removed] ] will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and ten recreation centers will be open [ [link removed] ] for general use and as cooling centers. Check on seniors, vulnerable neighbors, and unsheltered residents, and remember you can request free transportation to a cooling center for yourself or someone else by calling 311 or by calling the Shelter Hotline at (202) 399-7093.

Have a safe, fun Fourth of July, DC.

Sincerely,

Muriel BowserMETRO

"Starting at 5:00 p.m. on July 4, all Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess will be free [ [link removed] ]."
