Our Mrs. America: Phyllis the Encourager 
Phyllis Schlafly affectionately referred to her Eagle Forum state leaders as “Eagles.” She entrusted them with Eagle Forum’s name to help defend and promulgate conservative values in their prospective states. Phyllis was an incredible mentor and through her Eagle Council conferences, she equipped her leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to succeed. Phyllis and her Eagles are credited with the defeat of the Equal Rights Amendment and many other conservative wins.
 
In this week’s episode of Engage with Eagle Forum, we had the pleasure of interviewing Elaine Donnelly, who was inspired by Phyllis’ work on the Equal Rights Amendment to enter the fight out of a desire to protect her family. Elaine started her journey advocating for fair airtime in the ERA debates and then gradually grew increasingly interested in military policy. She has been the Founder & President of the Center for Military Readiness (CMR) for over 20 years and her expertise on issues affecting the military have proven invaluable to Eagle Forum.  
 
Phyllis wasn’t cold and calculating like the FX/Hulu show Mrs. America portrays her. She genuinely enjoyed building relationships with Eagle Forum’s state leaders and allies, like Elaine, and wanted them to succeed not for her own recognition, but because she believed they could! As Elaine says in our interview, Phyllis always ended a conversation with “carry on.”
