Every day, our lives are shaped by the laws and policies created by our elected officials and those they nominate into positions of power. Over the past month in particular, the U.S. Supreme Court announced decisions in cases regarding reproductive rights, gun violence prevention, environmental policy, democracy, and more. While Supreme Court justices are not elected, their appointment to our highest court is a direct consequence of our voting choices.
From local races to the presidency, elections have consequences. We—the voters—ultimately decide who will be in charge of making the decisions that affect our lives every day. This is why it’s so important that everyone participates in our democracy, and why this community puts so much time and effort into writing letters encouraging our fellow Americans to vote.
Before you write your next batch of letters, think about what’s motivating you to put in the work to support our democracy this year, and take a few minutes to go through our training on crafting your own personal story. Use your own story of how elections have impacted your life to connect with a potential voter and encourage them to participate in our democracy.
