*Independence Day celebrates our independence from tyrannical rule*

"We have unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness ?"

?

I am Representative Randy Greenwood proudly representing Litchfield, Monmouth and my home town of Wales, with this week?s Republican Radio Address.?

?

"?We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.?"

These words from the Declaration of Independence are foundational to the Republic of the United States of America. They are part of our DNA that sets us apart from every other nation on this earth.

In 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence.

Two days later ?on July 4-delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence.

Governments are formed by the people and for the people.

Proper governing requires consent from the governed.

This week we celebrate that our country is set up to correct injustices and restore consent from the governed when it strays from these founding principles.

All that is needed is an informed, engaged citizenry with the courage to peacefully and deliberately engage in returning our country to attaining peace, prosperity, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

This week?

Rest up, enjoy times with friends and family, and renew your spirit.

There is work to be done in the coming months to resurrect Maine AND? restore America?s greatness.

Rep. Randall "Randy" Greenwood

of Wales is currently serving his third term representing House District 56, which includes the towns of Monmouth, Wales, and Litchfield.? He serves as the Rankin Member on the 131st Legislature?s Joint Standing Committee on State and Local Government. It Is Rep. Greenwood?s third term on that committee, and second as the Republican Lead.

Randy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management, Leadership, and Organizational Studies from the University of Southern Maine.? He has spent his career as the former owner of Mixers Nightclub & Lounge, and as a former General Manager of Elizabeth Ann. Greenwood served as an Androscoggin County Commissioner for eight years.? Currently, Randy is a small business manager and a Selectman for the Town of Wales.

Randy is active in his local community, serving as Treasurer for the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association, and as a member of the Sabattus Community Baptist Church.? In the past, Greenwood has been involved in the Sabattus Recreation Club, and coached both baseball and soccer.?

Randy has three children; Adam, Isaac, and Gabby.? Having grown up on a 100 head dairy farm, he enjoys spending time on his own goat and chicken farm.? Rep. Greenwood also enjoys spending time outdoors in general, target shooting, hunting, and ice fishing.
