I grew up in the rural midwest where honesty and integrity were values we lived by — where I come from, no one is above the law.

I'm deeply disappointed by this week's Supreme Court decision to give anyone who sits in the Oval Office – regardless of political affiliation – unprecedented power to do almost anything they want without fear of legal consequences.

This is an attack on one of our most sacred founding principles — that the United States is a nation governed by laws, not monarchs. The president has checks and balances, and is subject to the same laws as all of us.

A blank check to do anything the president desires is not what the founders had in mind and counter to the nation we have built over generations.

We abide by the law, all of us, president or not.

This is an unprecedented frontier for extremism — one that we are doing everything in our power to end. I hope you will, too.
