Governor Gordon, Superintendent Degenfelder Respond To Judge's Order Blocking Rewrite of Title IX Rule

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Gordon and Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder have released the following statements after a Federal court issued a preliminary injunction halting implementation of President Biden’s new rule reinterpreting Title IX. Wyoming, along with Kansas, Alaska, Utah and private parties, filed its lawsuit against the Title IX rules in May.

“I am pleased that the court has recognized and halted the Biden Administration’s brazen attempt to rewrite Title IX. I never had any doubts that we would prevail in our efforts to thwart this miscarriage of authority, a move that undermines – among other things – the core principles of fairness in women’s sports. Working with Superintendent Degenfelder and Attorney General Hill, we have once again had to avail ourselves of the courts to hobble yet another outrageous example of federal overreach and misguided attempts to reinterpret this law. Wyoming will always fiercely protect the rights of our female athletes and women in all educational programs.”

Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder released the following statement:

“I am pleased to learn that we have won an injunction in our lawsuit against the Biden administration’s new Title IX rules. Thank you to Governor Gordon and Attorney General Hill for your swift and effective response to yet another federal overreach, thus protecting our Wyoming students and education staff. The injunction not only covers the states identified in the lawsuit, but schools across the country attended by members of other plaintiff organizations. The Kansas court was right in aligning with the two other courts that have already enjoined these rules.”

The injunction is in effect for the states of Kansas, Alaska, Utah, and Wyoming
