Tomorrow is July 4, the birthdate of our nation. We take this occasion to remind ourselves of the vision of our country that we’re working toward.
We are America. We all are America. In all our skin colors, we are America. In all our origins, we are America. In all our faiths, we are America. In all our genders, we are America. In freedom, and only in freedom, we are America.
As Americans, our work is to protect and fortify the freedoms we have built over 248 years. That work continues today, tomorrow, this November, every election, and every day in between. Let us recommit ourselves to upholding those ideals of freedom today and every day.

Trump can be prosecuted for January 6
On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump can, in fact, be prosecuted for his part in the conspiracy that led to the January 6, 2021, insurrection in our nation’s Capitol.
That’s the good news. The bad news is, the ruling came with a lot of strings attached, which complicates this case and creates a radical new doctrine with ominous implications that will imperil our freedoms.
Many of us are feeling a fresh wave of dread at what this ruling might mean. We should take this time to grieve as we need to and then recommit ourselves to action.

Canvassing safely in the Central Valley
As volunteers work to inform voters in the Central Valley about the stakes of the election and what their choices are, the weather is getting hotter and hotter as the state rolls into summer. Highs in the 13th and 22nd Congressional districts will top 100 degrees this weekend.
So it’s important for those who organize canvassers to make sure canvassers are protected from the heat. Our friends at the Bay Area Coalition have been doing just that: They’ve knocked on more than 20,000 doors so far, with many more ahead, and they’re making sure their volunteers are staying safe in the summer heat—including sending “cooling cars” with water, fresh fruit, sunscreen, and other supplies.

Thinking of going electric? Here are resources that can help
By now, you know that eliminating our dependence on fossil fuels is essential to preserving a livable climate. You want to do your part and switch to the growing variety of electric alternatives.
But perhaps you’re not sure whether those alternatives will work for you, or you don’t want to plunk down a bunch of money on a maybe. Or you’re ready to make the leap to an electric car, but the price is still too high to fit your budget.
The State of California, the City, and PG&E are offering rebates and other programs to help bring down the barriers to entry so you can electrify your life.

We can stop California from embracing facial surveillance
The sneaky surveillance bill, AB 1814, has unfortunately passed out of committee in the State Senate. The bill still needs to pass a full Senate vote, which means we can still stop it.
Tell Senator Wiener: Vote no on this sneaky spying bill.
Volunteers welcome: We’re looking for a social media person
This year is going to be busy, and we’d love a volunteer to help with publishing social media posts. We would like someone to work with us to create, schedule, and monitor posts on the Meta Suite (Facebook and Instagram) and Threads. No prior knowledge required—we can train you!
We’re also always on the lookout for more editors, or any other help you can provide. Our newsletter team meets every Tuesday night, and we would love for you to join us.
If you’re interested in volunteering, let us know at [email protected].
