As we celebrate Independence Day, when we think the unfolding events are happening far from home, we can now see the immediate effects on the streets of our cities and on the campuses of our once glorious institutes of higher learning. It has never been clearer how weak leadership combined with a failure to assert our values assertively in arenas around the world, leads to unrest, violence and a breakdown of our moral values at home. When American kids start chanting "Death to America," you know something is very wrong. Even in the wildest days of the civil unrest surrounding the Vietnam war, we did not see anything remotely resembling this type of venom and self-hatred.

America and the Free World it ostensibly leads are a mess. We are surrounded by malicious, attempts to bypass laws and pander to hostile interests, both foreign and domestic. Where there should be decisive leadership, there are lies that compromises the authority of the US on the world stage. Where there should be policies that promote prosperity, there is instead inflation, regulations that stifle growth, more than 100,000 deaths from fentanyl and other opiates a year thanks to Communist China, crushing budget deficits, and an eye-watering level of national debt – all of which have the potential to cripple our country for generations. Where there should be support for our allies around the world who are fighting to defeat barbarism, there is dithering and the refusal to deliver the arms that are needed, thereby emboldening our enemies who seek to destroy the American-led international order of free, sovereign nation-states.

Clearly, something dangerous is happening that is threatening the very fabric of our society. We cannot afford to be complacent.

As we approach the 248th anniversary of the founding of the USA, Gatestone resolves to redouble our efforts to produce analysis that promotes positive change and unity in the US and the Free World.
