The radical right continues to advance an extremist agenda at the judiciary, and at every level of governance. The SCOTUS rulings align with the goals of Project 2025 ([link removed]) to pave the way through authoritarianism. ** Transition in SiX Leadership

It is with deep gratitude that we share Neha Patel and Jessie Ulibarri are transitioning from their roles as co-executive directors of SiX with thoughtful intention. SiX is a vibrant and resilient organization that will last well beyond their leadership. ** Winning Jobs Narrative Webinar

Join SiX and the Rural Democracy Initiative ([link removed]) on July 16 at 3pm EST for a webinar on new polling from the Winning Jobs Narrative Project ([link removed]) , a working people-centered narrative architecture for talking about jobs, work, and the economy that resonates across race, geography, and issues.

Following an ambitious research agenda, the Winning Jobs Narrative team developed a narrative architecture that progressive advocates and leaders can draw from to frame a broad range of issues.

** New Progressive Governance Academy Offerings

The Progressive Governance Academy ([link removed]) (PGA) is a joint partnership between SiX, Local Progress, and re:power committed to building and developing the leadership and governance skills of state and local elected officials across the country. Join us for one of our upcoming trainings:

Governing While Black (GWB) Launch
PGA collected deep and broad stakeholder input to create a new Governing While Black curriculum for Black local and state elected officials to help support them in the unique challenges they face in elected office. We are excited to launch the full offering this August ([link removed]) 16-18 in Milwaukee. Please note: space is limited and the deadline for registration is 7/16.

Pennsylvania PGA for State and Local Electeds
Also coming up in August (9-10) is a PA-specific PGA workshop for both state and local electeds. This is an in-person opportunity to experience the PGA! Legislators will dig deep on collaborative governance: navigating complex challenges, strategically building power, and collectively governing. Here is the registration link ([link removed]) .

Core Virtual PGA Series for State/Local Electeds and Staff
We are thrilled about this upcoming opportunity to provide our whole core curriculum virtually, for those who've missed in-person opportunities! In September, we will kick off a free virtual series ([link removed]) that covers a different PGA module each week and it will be open to state and local electeds, as well as any staff who might benefit. This is likely our last virtual event prior to our PGA programming at SiX's National Conference ([link removed]) in December, so please help us share this opportunity!

** States Can Lead the Way to Tax Wealth
------------------------------------------------------------


The Supreme Court ruling in Moore v. United States ([link removed]) was a win for Congressional taxing authority ([link removed]) , but leaves the possibility of a federal wealth tax in a cloud of uncertainty ([link removed]) because it does not settle the question of whether income must be realized to be taxed. Fortunately, states can lead the way and are not reliant on a SCOTUS opinion to tax wealth. The Economic Power Project ([link removed])) is SiX's national economic justice initiative, organizing legislators committed to building economies that empower people and advance justice. For Pride Month, originating from the Stonewall Uprising ([link removed]) of June 28, 1969, we’re highlighting the intersection of LGBTQ+ liberation, racial justice, and economic power.

Attacks on reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy are a threat to the very foundations of our democracy. All too often, these attacks are rooted in disinformation and junk science. In the two years since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and revoked the constitutional right to abortion, we have witnessed a proliferation of abortion bans, attacks on contraception, and restrictions on gender-affirming care.

Jennifer Driver, SiX’s senior director of reproductive rights, joined partners from Guttmacher Institute ([link removed]) and Women’s Equality Center ([link removed]) for a panel discussion on how to counter these restrictions with progressive policies rooted in scientific evidence.
