Dear Friend,
As a first-generation American, July 4th has a special meaning for me – representing our Nation’s commitment to freedom, liberty, and justice for all.
In America, our personal freedoms are safeguarded by our Constitution. And yet, just two years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturned a woman's right to privacy over her own health care.
Friend, the Dobbs decision showed us that the battle for reproductive freedoms – and many of our freedoms – is far from over.
Earlier this year, I joined CNN to explain the stakes of the recent Supreme Court case threatening access to mifepristone, a safe and widely used drug that is used in two-thirds of abortion care cases in Colorado and other states:

Thankfully, mifepristone access was protected, but just like after Dobbs , we know the fight isn’t over.
We are now fighting to ensure that emergency medicine providers offer access to abortion care when it’s necessary to save lives. A previous lower court ruling that limited such access put lives at risk and forced patients from Idaho to travel to Colorado, or other states, to receive life-saving medical care. Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court provided a temporary reprieve, but we will continue to face these challenges.
For those whose lives are at stake, and for doctors who care for patients, the answer is clear and simple — abortion care is health care. This freedom — for each of us — to make medical decisions for ourselves and our families must not be infringed. That’s why I will always be on the side of reproductive freedom and do all I can to protect it.
