Dear Friends,
I wanted to update you on some of my recent work in Washington, D.C. and the district that may be of help to you.
At home in New Haven last month, I was happy to join National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) Chair, Dr. Maria Jackson, on a walking tour of some of the downtown mural projects made possible through the “Straight Up Art” and “Streetscape Art” programs.
Dr. Jackson and I also stopped by the Annual International Festival of the Arts & Ideas where we enjoyed music, dance, theater, sculpture, visual arts, and spoken performances from artists around our state. I am so proud to see the arts alive and flourishing in New Haven.
This month, I was able to award $1 million that I secured for the City of Derby – this funding will allow for a road construction project to support community revitalization and transit-oriented development.
I welcomed Carillon Technologies to New Haven, along with Governor Lamont and Mayor Elicker, with a ribbon-cutting of their newest research center in New Haven. This new facility will bolster our local economy with innovation and entrepreneurship. I am proud to support investments like this that advance our national security and technology sector.
I also joined a roundtable discussion at the New Haven Pride Center on LGBTQI+ issues with several advocates, legislators, and community activists from across our district to foster a deeper understanding of the issues and challenges the community faces.
This month, I led Democrats in several Appropriations Committee markup hearings where I fought to protect crucial funding for programs that directly support veterans, national security, and reproductive rights, and to crack down on corporate price gouging that has made everyday goods more expensive, among other things.
You can read my statements at each Full Committee hearing below:
I also spoke on the House floor about how the Majority’s extreme Military Construction & Veterans bill would hurt our veterans and military readiness. You can watch my remarks here.
In Case You Missed It (ICYMI): You may have noticed there have been more monarch butterflies in the area – this is thanks to the amazing work of Craig the Butterfly Man, a Branford native. His most recent work includes a live butterfly experience on the Branford Town Green that is open to the public through September. If you go, you may be lucky enough to have one land on you!

I will continue my efforts in Congress to get results for the families and communities of the Third District. Should you have any questions or if I can assist you with a federal agency, please contact my District office at 203-562-3718. To follow what I'm working on both in Washington and in Connecticut, visit my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, or follow me on Instagram.
Sincerely,
Member of Congress
