Summer Lecture: The Pig War

*What:* "The Third Anglo-American War, or the Pig War: How a Wayward British Pig Determined the Boundary between the United States and Canada"

*When:* Noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 11; doors open at 11:30 a.m.

*Where:* Columbia Room, Legislative Building (visitor info [ [link removed] ])

*Details:* As late as 1872, the border between the United States and Canada was disputed, particularly in the San Juan Islands. Dr. Thomas "Brim" Smith will tell the story about how a fight between an American settler and the Hudson's Bay Co. over a pig in a potato patch would escalate, bringing land and naval forces of the United States and the United Kingdom to Washington Territory.

The lecture is sponsored by the Department of Enterprise Services Capitol Visitor Services Volunteer Program.
