Dear PPADMV Supporter,
Summer is in full swing and so is our work here at PPADMV! We’ve been showing up for the LGBTQIA+ community at Pride events across the region, closely monitoring Supreme Court rulings on two crucial cases, and spreading the word about our outstanding PPGen students. |
| |
Throughout June, PPADMV proudly connected with community at Pride events across the region, demonstrating our commitment to equality, acceptance and the freedom to live authentically. This year, PPADMV was proudly present at: Annapolis Pride and the Annapolis Pride Festival, Baltimore Pride, Baltimore Trans Pride, Greenbelt Pride, Salisbury Pride, and Montgomery County's Pride in the Plaza. We believe that bodily autonomy and LGBTQIA+ rights must never be taken for granted, and we were honored to stand in solidarity with our communities throughout Pride month. PPADMV seeks passionate volunteers to help support our work at future Pride events and other upcoming opportunities. |

Critical SCOTUS decisions |
The Supreme Court of the United States recently issued two decisions of critical importance to the fight for reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy. In the first of these decisions, the court unanimously ruled that anti-abortion activists had no standing to challenge the FDA's approval of mifepristone, a safe and effective abortion medication used by millions. As such, access to mifepristone remains protected for the time being. Two weeks later, SCOTUS issued a ruling in the EMTALA case, temporarily allowing emergency abortion care in Idaho while the decision continues in lower courts. With this ruling, SCOTUS squandered its opportunity to protect emergency abortion care, instead continuing its streak of cruelty and negligence on issues of reproductive freedom and health care.
We must continue to organize against the cruel, undemocratic machinations of anti-abortion activists and politicians. At the ballot box and beyond, we ask that you lend your voice to the movement for reproductive freedom. Between now and November, we'll keep you informed on ways to show up for our rights to control our own bodies and decide our own futures. Here's how you can start today: |

Network NOVA Women's Summit |
On June 29, PPADMV sponsored and tabled at Network NOVA’s Women’s Summit, an event that aims to inspire and unite the grassroots activists who defend democracy and empower political action. We were proud to connect with this community of activists, including the many attendees who visited our table to learn about getting involved with our work, and give our thanks to the volunteers who helped represent PPADMV throughout the day.
