Tell the Auto Industry: Reject Trump’s Rollback of Mileage Standards!
TAKE ACTION

Dear friend,
The Trump EPA wants to allow 1 billion additional tons of lung-harming carbon dioxide pollution by gutting fuel-efficiency and air pollution standards for the auto industry.
This is a disaster for our environment and our health.
Not only is carbon dioxide the main driver of global warming, but it can also damage the respiratory and immune systems.
Auto tailpipe pollution is also a leading source of particulate pollution. A new study found that even a tiny increase in this type of pollution, known as PM2.5, can cause a 15 percent increase in the COVID-19 death rate!
EWG is challenging auto industry leaders to reject the Trump EPA standards and instead commit to following the health-protective fuel efficiency standards proposed by California and adopted by 14 other states.
Click here to urge auto manufacturers to stand up for our health and our environment by agreeing to comply with California’s stringent air and fuel efficiency standards.

The auto industry accepted billions of taxpayer dollars following the 2008 financial meltdown. A condition of the bailout was a commitment to better fuel efficiency. But as soon as Trump took office the auto industry began lobbying for rollbacks in fuel efficiency and air pollution standards.
We applaud companies like Ford, Honda, BMW, Volkswagen and Volvo that are already doing the right thing and have agreed to California’s separate mileage standards.
But GM, Fiat Chrysler and Toyota are siding with the Trump administration, backing its effort to revoke California’s right to set its own standards. Their CEOs are now complicit in Trump’s reckless abandonment of the nation’s most significant initiative to combat the climate crisis and the public health impacts of tailpipe emissions.
Take action and urge the CEOs of GM, Fiat Chrysler and Toyota to stand by their word and a join the fight against air pollution and climate change.
