June 16, 2015, was a day that our country changed forever.
That was the day when Donald Trump descended his golden escalator at Trump Tower in Manhattan to announce his candidacy for the Republican Party’s nomination as President of the United States.
He defied the elections experts, the cable TV hosts, and the sensibilities of millions of Americans who believed that a candidate like him could never win and that our democracy could never be shaken to its very foundations.
We have learned since that our democracy is precious. It is vulnerable. And that Donald Trump is not only capable of winning — that he could tear it all down with a second term in office.
