Tree Growth and Open Space in Maine - Surry

Join Maine Forest Service District Forester Michael Jensen for a presentation about Maine's Tree Growth and Open Space programs.  

Michael will cover:  


* What are the tax incentives for landowners in each of these programs?  
* What are the landowner's obligations to participate in these programs?  
* What are the requirements to participate in these programs?  
* *"Note"* *The minimum woodland ownership for Tree Growth is 10 acres; there is no minimum acreage for Open Space. * 

Following the presentation there will be a Q&A session.

Approved Wood Measurement Training Program

*Program/Bureau*: University of Maine School of Forest Resources 

*Date*: July 25 and 26, 2024 

*Location*: UMaine, University Forest, Shop, 825 College Ave., Old Town, ME [ [link removed] ] 

This course is designed to instruct participants in the basic techniques and methods applicable to wood measurement and scaling.  Satisfactory completion of this training program in wood scaling will reduce the requirement from 18 months of apprenticeship to 6 months for a wood scaler license.  

Instructions will be given in scaler’s licensing law, wood measurement methods and all applicable rules. The program includes both classroom and field training. Participants will receive a copy of the most recent wood measurement rules.  

The cost of this two-day program is $100. Space is limited to 20 participants. It is expected this training program will fill up. Register early!
