It was the 2014 Sugar Bowl. Oklahoma vs. Alabama with Alabama favored by 17.5 points. The largest spread in BCS history. ESPN asked over 80,000 football fans across the country who would win and then showed a map with the results. No one thought we could win, except one state – Oklahoma. We believed. I’m running for Congress in Oklahoma’s First District to defeat MAGA Kevin Hern and move Oklahoma away from MAGA extremism and back towards Oklahoma values. We believe Oklahoma values will win.
That season Oklahoma football Coach Bob Stoops made headlines standing up to the SEC. He was criticized when he said that SEC football dominance was propaganda. Now, in the Sugar Bowl, #3 Alabama would give #11 Oklahoma a payback. Alabama was the two-time defending National Champions. They were expected to win. But Oklahoma wasn't buying it. They knew who they were and what they believed. Oklahoma beat Alabama 45 to 31.
It's no secret that a large part of our campaign is about standing up to MAGA extremism. We believe Oklahoma is being held hostage by a vocal minority and that MAGA dominance is propaganda. We’re fighting that. Which is why, when a supporter gives me a smile, shakes my hand and says, “I support you, but you can’t win against MAGA,” I fight harder. I fight harder because I believe in Oklahoma. I fight harder because the key to winning is believing you can win. That’s true on the football field and that’s true in the voting booth. We believe Oklahoma values will win.
This campaign is about moving Oklahoma forward. It’s about standing for the values at the heart of the political center. We’re fighting to make Oklahoma the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
We need every Oklahoman to believe. If we don’t believe in ourselves, in our ability to make Oklahoma better, in our ability to win – then how can we convince the vast majority of Oklahomans in the political center to join us?
