Dear NRDC Action Fund Supporter,
This is the news we’ve been dreading. The Supreme Court just overturned a longstanding legal precedent critical to enforcing our environmental and public health laws.
The legal principle known as “Chevron Deference” said that when something is unclear in a federal law, courts should turn to agency experts’ interpretations of what the law means.
By striking down Chevron, SCOTUS is giving unaccountable and politically-biased judges the power to second-guess important agencies like the EPA and overturn their policies. That means laws like the Clean Air Act, the Endangered Species Act, and many others are in greater jeopardy.
Big Oil and other corporate polluters now have a powerful new tool in their arsenal as they work to dismantle our environmental safeguards for their own financial gain.
This ruling breathes even greater urgency into our work to stop Trump's momentum heading into the election. If Trump wins, he'll have four more years to appoint federal judges who will carry out the MAGA agenda. We can't let that happen.
Are you with us ? Donate today to power our largest ever get-out-the-vote drive and our policy advocacy in Congress.
SCOTUS's ruling today destabilizes environmental law and makes it harder for our government to function — and that's the goal of this Court!
But there is a way out of this mess.
We must keep Donald Trump from getting anywhere near the White House so that he's not in a position to appoint even one more federal judge.
And we need to elect a pro-environment majority in both houses of Congress that will pass laws to correct rulings that weaken our environmental safeguards and hold the Court accountable.
Your urgent support today will help us fight back by:
- Launching our largest-ever letter-writing and text-out-the-vote campaigns to reach pro-environment voters in swing states
- Focusing on key Congressional races that we need to win if we want to recapture the House and defend our Senate majority
- Lobbying in the halls of power to pass laws that preserve our vital environmental safeguards when politically-biased judges get it wrong (and we know they will!)
This is a setback, no doubt about it. But I have so much faith in supporters like you, our volunteers, and all my colleagues at the Action Fund to turn this around in November.
Thanks for standing with us at this critical moment. Your support makes our work possible.
Sincerely,
Manish Bapna
President, NRDC Action Fund
