Hi ,

Tonight, as I do each year, I delivered my State of the City address ([link removed]) . Like so many aspects of our lives, it was different than usual. There was no audience for the speech and there were no unexpected pronouncements about brand new policies.

Instead, I talked about how our city is grappling with a crisis unlike anything we’ve ever faced, what we are doing to meet the current moment, and what kinds of programs, investments, and commitments will shape our recovery.

If you missed the State of the City address, you can watch it here.

I shared what L.A. is doing to save lives in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak — and what we must do to rebuild livelihoods in the days ahead.

I spoke of the incredible strength and resilience of this city. I highlighted the speed of our actions to address the pandemic and the support we’ve offered one another — and how that spirit will drive us to a better tomorrow.

And I talked about how, though we must scale back the scope of our spending, we will never lose sight of my core commitments to protect your health, jumpstart your recovery, and deliver your fundamental services — as we continue to pursue our long-term missions: ending homelessness, saving our planet, and eradicating poverty.

This is one of the toughest challenges we have ever faced, but I know that Angelenos will rise to this moment ([link removed]) with the generosity, spirit, grit, and resilience that make Los Angeles strong. It will take time. It will take patience. It will take a deep love for this city, which I see from you every day.

Working together, we will build it back — and better.

Strength and love, Los Angeles.
