** Peer Network Spotlight
------------------------------------------------------------
PEAK offers members diverse peer spaces for learning, sharing, and evolving in our thrivingchapters ([link removed]) andpeer groups ([link removed]) . Each month, we showcase the meaningful programming and networking taking place in these volunteer-led spaces and how the PEAK team is supporting their work.
PEAK peer networks are ready to start the summer with insightful learning and sharing opportunities. During PEAK New England’s May hybrid chapter meeting (above left), YW Boston President and CEO Beth Chandler discussed how to move forward in challenging times that threaten diversity, equity, and inclusion. She encouraged attendees to remove stereotypical language from job descriptions and support policies that advance diversity. Technical Product Manager Kyle Renninger presented as well on adopting equity-centered artificial intelligence practices. If you would like to participate in this ongoing conversation and share resources, sign up ([link removed]) for PEAK’s dedicated forum on CONNECT.
PEAK Northeast hosted “Building Your Grants Management Handbook,” featuring a presentation the importance of documenting grants management policies and procedures to ensure stability and how knowledge silos pose risks to foundations, copresented by Jewish Foundation for Education of Women Finance and Administration Manager Amanda Lefer, and The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust Grants Manager Irene Williams.
PEAK Delaware Valley (above right) organized a successful after-work networking event at the Chancery Market in Wilmington, Delaware, which provided a wonderful opportunity for attendees to deepen their connections and build meaningful relationships within the regional community.
** PEAK in Community
------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s the latest on how PEAK is engaging with member organizations, partners, nonprofits, and allies in advocating for transformative change and leading the way in advancing equitable and effective grantmaking practices.
At EPIP’s annual conference, Learning and Events Specialist Kristen Craig and Peer Group Specialist Rafael Torres joined President and CEO Satonya in delivering “Leading From Your Seat,” a session where they each shared tips from their emergent learning playbooks on how to apply a leadership lens to one’s work and how to address the challenges many encounter to find their path to inclusion at the decision-making table.
Satonya joined Georgia Center for Nonprofits CEO Karen Beavor for a June webinar where they discussed the issues that are top-of-mind for funders, how they approach those issues, and what nonprofits can do to adjust how they engage funders so that they can find common ground, build stronger relationships, and create new opportunities.
Satonya delivered a keynote address at the Bowie State University Philanthropy Initiative’s commencement ceremony. Over the past year, Satonya has also been a guest lecturer in Bowie State’s Philanthropy Fellowship program, a continuing partnership between the university, PEAK, and ABFE to help graduate students of color prepare for leadership roles in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors.
Nonprofit Financial Commons—a peer community where nonprofits can share information on how to act strategically on their financial models—welcomed Dolores as a guest speaker in its webinar series on the implications of different business models. Here, she spoke on PEAK’s work to cultivate a vibrant member community and we evolved our infrastructure over time to continuously support our community.
PEAK has joined an Independent Sector-led coalition of nonprofits and philanthropic organizations in signing on to this letter ([link removed]) asking Congress to provide $4–$8 million in funding for the Bureau of Labor Statistics to include nonprofit workforce data in the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages. While quarterly wage data is available to most other sectors, reporting on the nonprofit sector is only released every five years, depriving our economy’s third largest employer of the ability to nimbly respond to trends, better work with policymakers, and equitably support a corps of employees.
Senior Knowledge and Learning Manager Vanessa Elkan, Knowledge and Learning Manager Roberto Espinosa, Chief Strategy Officer Betsy Reid, and Senior Publications Editor Jesse Rhodes attended GEO’s 2024 National Conference in Los Angeles. The event, hosted in partnership with Philanthropy California, featured speakers from across the social sector who inspired attendees to reenvision philanthropy.
